Trialling electronic starting devices

Following advice from Little Athletics Victoria, we’re trialling electronic starting devices as an alternative to cap guns.

We have been advised by Little Athletics Victoria that we should change to electronic starting devices as they are safer, cost effected and cap guns are potentially going to be banned in the near future. It’s quite likely that electronic start devices will be used for all athletic track races in the future across Victoria and potentially Australia.

We were fortunate enough to trial the electronic start units this week to get an idea how effective they are. There were several tones used to get an understanding of the preferred tone. Since region and state events will use electronic guns, we want to give our athletes the best chance with starting races using the same devices so they get use to sound and are not disadvantaged using different sounds at different venues.

The Knox Little Athletics committee will discuss the trial and will determine next steps regarding starting devices.
