Knox LAC is running a free Introduction to Coaching course for Knox Parents and our Chief Officials.
This is a 4hr introduction session to coaching and will cover the basics for those that are wanting to teach event-specific skills at little aths.
If you are a new Chief Official at Knox, this will help in understanding correct technique at various events. Even if you have been a chief for some time this would be a good refresher. We encourage all Knox Chiefs Officials to attend.
Schedule: 15 min – Overview, Junior athletes 15 min – Warmup 75 min – Sprints, hurdles, relays, walks 15 min – tea break 60 min – Long jump, triple jump, high jump 60 min – Javelin, discus, shot 15 min – Summary & questions

The centre will provide tea, coffee and biscuits. Please bring water and any afternoon tea that you will need.
If you are an athlete that trains with Steve Morris at long and triple jump, Steve is on holidays from today for a few weeks so there will be no long or triple jump training from tonight (Monday 11th September) until 23 October 2023.
If you are an athlete that trains with Mike Donato – Mike has advised that due to other commitments there will be no throws or sprints training this Sunday (10 September 2023).
Welcome to Season 2023/24 – Our track and field season will start tomorrow 9 September 2023.
A few quick points for everyone.
As it is the first week of the season the committee will be busy setting up. Please be patient while we are setting up. Parents if you are early please help with the setup – there is a lot to do and we would appreciate the help.
Returning Athletes If you are wanting to compete tomorrow you must have been registered by Wednesday 6 September – if your registered after this date you will not be able to compete this week as we will not have name patches ready for you.
We will not be handing out temporary patches to returning athletes if you registered after Wednesday. You will have to wait to week 2 (16 September) to start.
For those that registered prior to Wednesday’s cutoff – thank-you – Your name patches will be available from your club team managers. Clubs will be provided the name patches early tomorrow.
Name Patches must be worn at all events.
New Athletes – Trial Athletes If you are new to little aths and want to trial before fully registering you must register with LAVic as a trial member. You can register here https://lavic.com.au/membership/new-member and make sure you choose Knox as your centre.
If you have registered as a trialling athlete and are proposing to trial this Saturday please ensure you arrive early. Our registrar and helpers will be at the Knox Tents adjacent to grandstand. You will be able to get your trialing members number and temporary patches and information about our clubs and where to go. Please arrive from 8am onwards.
Trailing athletes should wear comfortable sports wear and runners.
Some quick reminders for parents/guardians
If you are on duty please arrive early (by 8.15am) and sign in with the duty manager. The duty manager will be setup at the entry gate at the grandstand end.
Chief Officials should also arrive early no later than 8.15am to setup their events so we are ready to start at 8.30am
The events will be called at 8.30am sharp – please be on time and ready to go.
If you are waiting on club tops – DO NOT WEAR KNOX CENTRE TOPS – these are reserved for our rep events such open days, regional and state championships. These tops are not to be worn at weekly competition. Please wear a suitable t-shirt until your club tops arrive.
Parents/Guardians please ensure that your athlete/s are ready. We will not hold an event because you are late.
Parents/guardians and other spectators are not permitted within competition areas. This includes marshalling areas. We will ask you to leave the area. Only Athletes, officials and parents on duty are permitted in ot the competition areas.
Athlete and Parent Behaviour – Knox LAC expects and we enforce that all athletes and parents meet the LAVic Code of Conduct. Any athlete or parent not meeting the expected behaviours will be asked to leave.
Some other things to be aware of – Venue Conditions of Entry
No Dogs – LAVic rules (and the centre) do not permit dogs at any little athletics events – Please do not bring your dog/s – you will be asked to leave the venue. Dogs are not permitted in the venue at any time.
No Balls – Do not bring footballs, soccer balls etc – Balls being kicked around are a hazard to athletes. You will be asked to put them back in your car.
No Bikes/Scooters/Skateboards – if you have younger children etc please do not bring their bikes or scooters, roller blades/skates skateboards etc – We do not allow them in the venue at any time. You will be asked to put them back in your car.
These rules and other conditions of entry are clearly signed at the entry gates to the venue. Please make sure you are aware of them.
The season is a Go! Knox is open for registrations and the season will start on 9th September 2023. The cut off for registrations and be able to compete on the 9th September is 11.59pm on Wednesday 6th September 2023.

New athletes New athletes that wish to fully register or register for a trial must do so via the LAVic registration portal.
Make sure you choose “Knox” as your Centre and then follow the prompts.
Returning Athletes Returning athletes will have received an email from LAVic inviting you to register for season 2023/24. Please click on the link in the email and follow the prompts.
PLEASE NOTE: REGISTRATION FOR NEW ATHLETES AND RETURNING ATHLETES MUST BE DONE BY 11.59pm WEDNESDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER 2023.
This is so our Registrar has sufficient time to print name patches and have them ready for clubs to collect in the morning on Saturday 9th September. Please note our Registrar will not available on Friday 8th September so name patches need to be printed on Thursday.
If you register after this time you will not be able to compete as the centre will not have name patch available for you. WE WILL NOT BE ISSUING TEMPORARY PATCHES TO RETURNING ATHLETES OR NEW ATHLETES THAT REGISTER LATE AFTER WEDNESDAY 6TH SEPTEMBER.
Please do not turn up if your register after the 6th September expecting to compete – you will have to wait until 16th September.
