Knox Little Athletics Weekly Competition Survey for Season 2024-25

Dear Valued Knox Member

As you are aware our beloved Knox Athletics Track is currently undergoing a major $4.6 million transformation thanks to the partnership between the Knox City Council and the Victorian Government.  The scope of works includes the following:  Track re-surfacing, infield upgrades, footpath upgrades, LED lighting installations, additional shade and new scoreboard.

The project commenced in March 2024 and is on schedule to be completed in 2025.

Whilst our track is closed your Executive Committee is working tirelessly to plan for the upcoming track and field season for 2024-2025.  We have been in discussion with various local centres exploring all options.  Before a decision is made, we would love to hear from our members as to their preferences, so the best decision can be made with our members in mind.  We understand that our final decision may not suit everyone, however rest assured that you are able to still register as a “Knox Little Athlete” and then nominate (by advising our Executive Committee) which centre that you wish to compete at until our track re-opens.

We are so excited for our track re opening in 2025 and truly believe that it will be the best athletics track in the Eastern Suburbs.

Please see below the link for the google form to complete to let us know your preference.  We ask that you complete the google form by the 30th of June 2024.

If you didnt receive the email please contact me via email president@klca23.org.au and I’ll forward a copy.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Executive Committee

Kind Regards

Susan Kindler
Knox Centre President

Track Refurbishment Update – June 2024

With the track works well underway, it was pleasing to see at the latest walk through with Council and Polytan that that track is starting to again look like an athletics track.

Ground work are nearing completion with the stabilisation works and compaction being finished. Power and data cabling has been run under the track and the track drainage system is being installed.

In the last few weeks we have seen the demolition of the long jumps pits/runways and the old playground area. The long jumps runways have had some extra work to ground underneath to stabilize the runways to ensure their longevity.

The next few weeks will see the the completion of the track drainage and works to start on the track lighting system. It is expected that the asphalt base layer works for the track will be started around early August.

We are also pleased to see that even with the extra work to stabilise the track, it is still on scheduled to be completed on time – March 2025.

Reminder – Have Your Say – Athletics Track Playground

With the old playground at the track being demolished last season due its age and safety concerns, Knox Council, as part of annual Capital Works Program, has proposed a new playground at the track and is now seeking community feedback on the proposal.

Proposed Playground at Knox Athletics Track

The proposed location is on the hill (NE Corner of the of the facility) near the 200m start.

For further details on the playground project you can click on the link below.
