Life Membership Award

Life membership was presented at the centre’s 2014 AGM in April.

This person first became involved with the running of Cross Country in 2004.  He ran the committee streamlining many processes and making it significantly easier for those who followed. During his time as Chair the number of athletes running grew steadily.  He handed over the running of CC to become more actively involved at Executive level.
This recipient set up and got our electronic timing working, a feat many before him had tried to do and failed.  We have a system which works and is the envy of most Victorian Centres thanks to his expertise.  He also developed the Event Manager system which has stream lined the running of our program and resulted in more athletes completing a greater number of events.  Clubs and parents can keep abreast of which events their children are competing in via the app he designed.

This person took over the role of President at a time when the Centre required direction.  His expertise in leadership and management resulted in many improvements being made to the grounds and processes.

Steve Cowburn presented a
Life Membership Award to
Russell Speight.

In his acceptance Russell thanked all the Life Members and expressed his appreciation to all those who have helped make the Centre a better place.

John Bennet Trophy for 2013-14

The John Bennet trophy was presented at the centre’s 2014 AGM in April.

The John Bennet trophy is awarded to an athlete with an outstanding performance in a single event or events during the season and commemorates John’s active support of Little Athletics.

This season’s winner has had a wonderful season culminating in winning the 100 and 200m sprint titles at State.  During the season he broke the 100m electronic record with a best time of 11.35 sec.  This time went under the manual time of 11.50 seconds which was set in 2001.  He also broke the 200m electronic record with a best time of 23.43 seconds which also went under the manual time of 23.91 which had been held since 1994.
At the recent State Championships he broke the Knox 200m record with a time of 23.14 seconds.

The winner of the John Bennet Trophy
for Season 2013-2014 is
Jordan Munyard.

Knox LAC Distinguished Service Award

The Knox Little Athletics Distinguished Service Award was presented at the centre’s 2014 AGM in April.

The recipient of this award started over 16 years ago as a Race Walk Coach at Knox Little Athletics Centre.  A mother of two young sisters knew that the recipient was a walker and that she had competed at Region, State and National levels.  She thought that this person would be an excellent coach for her daughters.  Less than a year later, both girls won State medals.  And so it started.  Next was the recipient’s daughter.  She coached her to win Nationals and gold in the Pan Pacific Championships.  The recipient built her squad over the next years, and now has over thirty athletes, ranging from 6-7 year olds, all the way to U17, U18 athletes.  She has developed as a coach and has participated in many seminars, attending AIS training camps, officiating at State, and National events.  Her current Qualifications include: A-Grade Little Athletics Race Walking Judge, Race Walking Australia Level B I.A.A.F. International Judge and Level 2 Athletics Club Coach.

It gives us great pleasure to award the
Knox LA Distinguished Service Award to
Frances Attard

In response, Fran expressed her appreciation for the award. She began attending LA 18 years ago and enjoys the pleasure coaching brings her. Whilst medals are nice, watching the improvements younger athletes are making and the smiles on their faces is where the real joy is.
