Update to Calendar

We have had to make some changes to the Calendar released last week .

Our opening round will not be at Knox Park as scheduled.

Unfortunately we were not able to setout a suitable course around the facilities with other sporting events on that weekend that was going to provide a safe course. We are currently exploring other locations and will have an update during this week.

Message From the President – State Champs and Track Refurbishment

Firstly, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all our families that help make the running of State Champs at Knox so successful. While it was short notice to get the event up and running and with all the challenges to run a state event at local suburban track (the heat and the wind), it think it was one of the most successful weekends of Athletics I have seen at Knox in all my time at the center.

A couple of quick shout outs

To our Team Manager Janine – I am sure we all agree that Janine’s effort over the weekend was superb and to our assistant team mangers it a very big thankyou.

Liam and Emma Mathews – they did a fabulous job in the canteen. To turn around a canteen that had been closed up for the season and track rebuild, to then get it back up and running for State Champ weekend was a super effort. Often we forget about the running a canteen the time and effort hat it takes. I think all of us owe Liam and Emma some gratitude especially on the Sunday making sure the center was well hydrated and fed.

Wayne Hartley – who at short notice stepped up to fill the coffee van void after one of the vans pulled out. I don’t think Wayne stopped for the weekend making ice coffees and frappes.

It does show that our families at Knox are happy to pitch in when needed.

To our coaches – a big thankyou – Many of them stayed all day on the both days to ensure athletes were supported.

An Finally – well done to our athletes as well who competed, there were many VBP’s set and even an Australian record. I think its one of the most successful State Champ Knox have had. It was a great effort by all our athletes.

Finally to those who stayed back on Sunday to late in the evening to help pack up – a very big thank you. I would also like to thank those that helped on Monday to finish packing up and get the center ready for the track rebuild. It was great to get the help.

Track Rebuild

If you haven’t been to the track since we finished State Champs – Track works have begun. Polytan were in early on the Tuesday (12 March) straight after States and had already started to remove the old track. Discus cages have also been removed and over the next couple of weeks light towers will come down and the asphalt will be removed.

There are some photos below. We will be posting photos regularly over time to keep everyone updated.

We are still working with Knox Council and other centers to secure training and competition facilities for next summer track and field and we will make announcements in due course.

Upcoming Cross Country Season.

With the committee moving into cross country season we are taking a break for a couple of weeks to recover from the track and field season. We will be making announcement on the cross country season soon. Please keep an eye on our website and social media. The Cross Country season will be starting 4th of May.
