U7 Program Update – November

Welcome Everyone.

Hope everyone has settled in and is enjoying their experience at Knox Little Athletics.

The U7 program has generally been running very smoothly. The U7 Boys have one of the dads, Adam Barnes who kindly takes them to each event and guides them through what is required, encouraging good behavior along the way. This has worked extremely well. If possible we would love to have another dad or mum to assist to take the U7 Girls on a weekly basis. If anyone is interested in this role, it would count as a weekly duty for your club, please let me know. Also if anyone has any experience regarding High Jump we would love your assistance. Unfortunately, at times, we do not have enough coaches to assist at as many events as we would like.

The U7 program will still look to include the Mini Olympics (skills and games) and the respective events listed on the program. We strongly encourage your child to come to these sessions as we always focus on an aspect of the event that will assist with skill development. For example, performing a drill to touch the noodle above their head encourage the children to use their arms when Long Jumping. We will also begin to encourage the U7s to do a run-up with Triple Jump. They picked up on the Standing Triple Jump really well but note that the skills associated with this are hard to retain for many children and they may need to practice at home over winter to retain this knowledge.

Please note that after Christmas we are also looking to focus on exploring events that they will compete in the following year e.g. Hurdles and some more on Walks.

There are some special events occurring in the near future. On December 21st we have Multi-Event Day. The U7s will compete in 4 events which are the events known as Multi Events. They are 100m, Long Jump, Discus and 400m. Points are allocated for each performance and each group has an overall winner.

Once again would like to acknowledge your assistance, especially when we have dragged you across to help. More hands on deck means the kids get more out of the program.

Please become involved in any way you are able to, especially with the games. Any feedback that will assist your child and your experience to be more fulfilling is most welcome. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions or call to discuss.

Thanking you
