U7s High Jump and Triple Jump

With the program this coming Saturday, 11 Oct, some events will be modified to suit the development of children of this age, and to also account for the fact it is the first time that many will be exposed to particular events.

With High Jump the first two sessions will include–
1. Exploring which leg to jump from and introducing the scissor jump with no run-up (Flexi bar) – Max. height for all 50cm .
2. Add the run-up (Flexi bar) – Max. height for all to be 60cm with each child receiving a ticket for this height.
The aim of these sessions is to ensure the children have an introduction to the basics of high jump, build confidence going over the bar (thus flexi bar first), and that every child has multiple turns at going over the bar. It is often the children who require extra assistance that are eliminated first so we want each child to have heaps of turns.

With Triple Jump, we will do the standing start only. Developmentally to piece the run-up, hop, step, and jump together is quite a challenge for the U7s. Thus we will persevere with the standing start at this stage and introduce the hop, step and jump through skill activities at Mini Olympics.
