Knox LAC Distinguished Service Award

The Knox Little Athletics Distinguished Service Award was presented at the centre’s 2014 AGM in April.

The recipient of this award started over 16 years ago as a Race Walk Coach at Knox Little Athletics Centre.  A mother of two young sisters knew that the recipient was a walker and that she had competed at Region, State and National levels.  She thought that this person would be an excellent coach for her daughters.  Less than a year later, both girls won State medals.  And so it started.  Next was the recipient’s daughter.  She coached her to win Nationals and gold in the Pan Pacific Championships.  The recipient built her squad over the next years, and now has over thirty athletes, ranging from 6-7 year olds, all the way to U17, U18 athletes.  She has developed as a coach and has participated in many seminars, attending AIS training camps, officiating at State, and National events.  Her current Qualifications include: A-Grade Little Athletics Race Walking Judge, Race Walking Australia Level B I.A.A.F. International Judge and Level 2 Athletics Club Coach.

It gives us great pleasure to award the
Knox LA Distinguished Service Award to
Frances Attard

In response, Fran expressed her appreciation for the award. She began attending LA 18 years ago and enjoys the pleasure coaching brings her. Whilst medals are nice, watching the improvements younger athletes are making and the smiles on their faces is where the real joy is.
