Season 2021/22 Track and Field Update

Preseason/Tryout Days Postponed

As everyone will be aware, with the current Covid situation and restrictions still in place, there is little chance of Track and Field training sessions and the preseason/tryout days happening in September. There is also a strong likelihood of a delayed start to the season.

Therefore, to clarify, the proposed preseason/tryout days scheduled for the 11th and 18th September will not go ahead.

The Executive Committee is working on an updated calendar, with a number of options to get the season started as quickly as we can once restrictions ease and community sport can resume.

Knox LAC Training

Sanctioned training remains suspended and the track remains closed. We will advise everyone once training can resume.

For those athletes that are also AV members, AV have recently reminded members and coaches about training during lockdown and provided the following advice:

We have been notified that some members of our community may not be following the rules set out by the Victorian Government. As members of the wider community, we need to continue to work together over the coming weeks to follow the directions in place. For the overwhelming majority of our community, I thank you for following the rules so stringently.

We have also received some questions regarding the Government’s advice and protocols surrounding physical exercise during this lockdown.

The restrictions confirm that “Non-professional outdoor sports practices and games are not permitted under the lockdown restrictions.”
This indicates that physical coaching with another individual(s) at a park, venue, track, or similar outdoor/indoor space is not permitted. You can still engage with athletes via video applications or a phone call to discuss training. Individuals may be able to incorporate these coaching directions during their permitted exercise under the current restrictions.

Seeking a Canteen Manager

The centre is still seeking a person to take on the role as canteen manager. This is a paid role within the Centre, looking after the canteen on a weekly basis. If you are interested, or would like further information, please contact Kris Shipham at treasurer@klac23.org.au
