Summer Track and Field – Season Calendar Released and Updates

With recent roadmap being announced we are looking forward to getting back to the track to start training and getting the season started. We are only 3 weeks from the scheduled start of season.

At this stage proposed dates for outdoor community sport to start in line with the roadmap are:

Sanctioned Training: To start after the 26th October.
Track and Field Season: Scheduled to start on 6 November.
If there are any further announcements that change these we will of course let everyone know.

Season Calendar Released

In light of the above, the Season calendar has now been finalised and is available for download. It will also be posted to facebook and be available on calendar page. Please note that the calendar is subject to change as covid rules change.

REGISTER FOR THE SEASON
Registrations are open. Please register to ensure you are ready for the season.
Note: All athletes attending Knox LAC sanctioned training sessions once training starts must be registered before attending for insurance purposes.

Covid Protocols
We are waiting on protocols to be provided for training and competition. Once these have been given to us from LAVic we will advise everyone as soon as we can.

Covid Safety Officers
We are looking for additional CSO’s this season. This is an important role for the centre to fill and without CSO’s on duty the centre is not permitted to conduct any training or competition. CSO’s ensure that the centre is meeting its responsibility complying with covid protocols. If you can help out please contact Liam Mathews at vp2@klac23.org.au

Canteen Manager
The centre is still seeking a canteen manager to help run the canteen each week. This is paid role within the centre. If you feel like getting paid to attend athletics please contact Kris Shipham at treasurer@klac23.org.au. If we cannot get a canteen manager on board before the start of the season there will be no canteen operating until we do.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone on the 6 November. Please register ASAP to ensure your ready to go for the start of the season.

News – Cross Country Presentation Night

Seniors Presentation Night – East Keilor Football Club

Knox LAC held it’s Cross Country Presentation night on Wednesday night. With current covid restrictions in place, we weren’t able to have our usual theme night so awards winners were announced via an online ceremony which was well attended by our families.

Well done to all our award winners. Each age group award winners, handicap day winners and shield winners will be posted on Facebook and Instagram over the coming days as we celebrate each winner.

A big thank you to all our athletes and families that attended the season, and while the season ended early due to covid, it was a successful season. Thank you to athletes and families from our partner Centres, Sherbrooke and Waverley, for attending throughout the season and helping out. To athletes from other Centres, we hope you enjoyed competing at our cross country, and hope to see you all back next year.

Thank you to our volunteers that helped out each week, the season does not occur without you. Thank you to all those on the Cross Country Committee for the hard work each week in ensuring that Cross Country got underway under trying covid conditions.

Finally, the Centre would like to send out a thank you to Simon Chapman who is stepping down as Cross Country Chairperson. Simon has been on the Cross Country committee for the past 4 years and while Chairperson, he was also active in taking on various roles each week. The Centre would like to acknowledge and thank Simon for his work over the years that ensured successful cross country seasons.

To our athletes, we hope you had a great season, and hope to see you at the track for summer track and field.

Covid Update 1 October – Knox Track to Open Saturday 2 October.

Knox Council have this afternoon formally advised that the track can be opened and will therefore be available for public exercise from Saturday morning 2 October 2021.

The council have placed restrictions on its use in line with the Restricted Activity Direction 18 (RAD) for permitted operations of outdoor physical recreation facilities and the COVID 19 Vaccinated Activity Direction (VAD) for personal trainers.

These include:

Public gathering limits
Exercise for up to four hours, with one other person. The other person can be from another household.
Up to a maximum of five persons for the purposes for personal training from two households if all persons aged 18 or older have received two vaccine doses. (The personal trainer must keep records of vaccinations)

All indoor spaces, including toilets at the facility are closed to members of the public at all times; and
All members of the public and any personal trainer comply with the COVID 19 Vaccinated Activities Direction for personal training.

Sport and exercise coaching is permitted as a form of personal training. Full Time Coaches are subject to the same restrictions as personal trainers.

Coaching / Personal Training must:
– be for exercise purposes
– adhere to class size caps relevant to personal trainers
– adhere to face mask wearing and physical distancing restrictions
– adhere to cleaning requirements in relation to shared equipment

LAVic have also contacted councils and advised them of their position and have confirmed the following in a memo to centres:

While community sport is not permitted in metro Melbourne (this includes Centre sanctioned coaching, training and competition), the current Restricted Activity Directions permit some personal training and coaching for members of the public.

The coaching/personal training arrangements for members of the public that are currently permitted in metro Melbourne:

– Are not sanctioned Little Athletics activities;
– Do not provide Little Athletics Australia insurance cover for athletes, regardless of the registration status of the athlete;
– Do not provide Little Athletics Australia insurance cover for the personal trainer/coach, regardless of the accreditations/approvals held.

Any claims arising from independent personal training/coaching will not be accepted under the Little Athletics insurance policy.

Clubrooms, change rooms, storage rooms, toilets, facility rooms, first aid rooms and Centre equipment cannot be accessed. Metro Melbourne Centres cannot legally organise or sanction any coaching, training, competition activities, onsite meetings or access to the equipment at the venue until restrictions allow.

Therefore any personal training conducted at the track is not sanctioned by Knox Little Athletics and is conducted at your own risk. There will be no access to toilets or any other facilities inline with the current restricted activity directions.

If you propose to use the track for exercise, please do so in a safe manner.

Dates to remember

26 October – Proposed date that training for community sport can resume

6 November – Proposed date for our Season Start

The Executive Committee is waiting for further information on protocols for the return to training and competition from LAVic. Once these have been finalised we will provide an update on the training and upcoming season.

Reminder the registration portal is open and you can register for the upcoming season.

Covid Update – 23 September 2021

With the recent announcement by the Victorian Government of the road map out of covid lockdown we now have a clearer path to starting our summer track and field season. LAVic have provided a memo to centres that updates the current situation. You can read the road map here

The key points are:

Current situation – Come & Try Days and any form of modified competition are not permitted.
Metro Melbourne remains locked down.
26th October – sanctioned training and coaching scheduled to re-commence for metro Melbourne; no change for regional Victoria.
5th November – metro Melbourne and regional Victorian restrictions become aligned under the National Plan (‘Phase C’); competition scheduled to commence, with restrictions.

The Executive Committee is working on an updated season calendar based on the above and we will be looking to start the season on the 6th November.

While the road map does state that the outdoor recreation facilities may open from 5th October, we do not have any further advice as to whether this includes the track or if council will open the facility prior to the 26th October. We will advise members if council does permit the track to be open for exercise.

Centre training/coaching

LAVic have also advised that notwithstanding more relaxed settings around personal training in recent days, this has no bearing on the status of sanctioned Centre training/coaching in Metro Melbourne. Training/coaching is still not permitted.
