Track Renewal Update and Upcoming Track and Field Season for 2024-25

Well it has been a couple of months since the last track update.

We are at an exciting time for the rebuild – the track is starting to take shape.

  1. Lights and towers have been delivered, assembled and erected.
  2. Inside drain concrete infield pour is complete
  3. Footpath and outer kerb preparation is well underway and will be poured over the next week or so
  4. Fencing has started along sand jump pit areas
  5. New PA system is being installed.

There is still a long way to go and with the recent rains it has slowed down the progress a little, but hopefully with some warmer weather coming – and Spring is not far away – we have been advised that the completion of the project remains on track.

Track and Field Season 24-25

Thank you to all those families that responded to the survey. There was a clear majority of responses that preferred continue competing on a Saturday morning. The Executive Committee has reached out to Ringwood LAC and is working with the Ringwood committee on joining in with their program until our track is reopened.

The Centre will be making announcements on the season in the next few weeks as we finalise our competition calendar.

Track and Field Training.

The committee is still working with council on a training venue for the summer season. We reached out to a number venues (including Maroondah Council for the use of Croydon Track) as soon the summer use application period opened at the start of August. This does mean that our application is in with other regular users and we may not have exclusive use for Knox LAC during our training times.

Despite various avenues of advocacy through our Local Councilors and support from LAVic and we were not able to expedite this process over the winter to secure a venue earlier. We are also looking at alternative venues around that will support our training program to get some preseason training underway.

We will be providing an updated coaching timetable and training locations once we have approval to use venues and training sessions from our coaches.

We do understand that people are looking for information on the season and what is happening. Rest assured the committee is working hard to finalise the season details and provide our members with complete package of information. Please be patient – the season will be different but its an exciting time for our center.

Vale Noel Rasti

It is with great sadness that we were advised that Noel Rasti (former Knox Little Athletics President from 1988 to 2009) had passed away on Monday the 8th of July 2024.

Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

Noel Rasti was a long standing member of Knox Little Athletics having served our centre for 21 years. Noel held many positions during his time at the centre including Knox President (21 years), VLAA delegate (19 years), EMR delegate (21 years – including 13 years served as EMR president), BOM delegate (14 years), handbook committee (16 years) and Centre Referee (15 years). Noel also regularly assisted in set up and pack up, arena and equipment manager, chief of officials, competition committee rep, program manager, announcer, championship day and open day co-ordinator, senior club liaison, mini Olympics co-ordinator, heath and safety officer, computer operations and organising end of season trophies.

Noels dedication and commitment to Knox Little Athletics saw Noel awarded with Life Membership of Knox Little Athletics In 1991. In 2002, Noel was awarded Little Athletics Victoria Life Governor.

Our centre and Little Athletics owes much to Noel. He was a person who helped out at any opportunity and led by example.

Our thoughts and prayers go to his family, relatives and friends.
