{"id":16936,"date":"2025-01-25T18:10:35","date_gmt":"2025-01-25T07:10:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/klac23.org.au\/wordpress\/?p=16936"},"modified":"2025-01-25T18:10:39","modified_gmt":"2025-01-25T07:10:39","slug":"updated-lavic-heat-policy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/klac23.org.au\/wordpress\/?p=16936","title":{"rendered":"Updated LAVic Heat Policy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Little Athletics Victoria has updated its <a href=\"https:\/\/lavic.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/LAVic-Heat-Policy-2024-v1.pdf\">Heat Policy<\/a> which is now in effect &#8211; for a full review of the updated policy please <a href=\"https:\/\/lavic.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/LAVic-Heat-Policy-2024-v1.pdf\">click here.<\/a> The new policy reviews not only the Temperature (Air Temperature) but also Relative Humudity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This policy is activated when any of the following apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Forecast temperature is above 26C.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Heat Heath Alert is issued for the relative region of Victoria in which the event will<br>take place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A total fire ban has been declared.<br><br>While the policy is activated when the forecast temperature is above 26C, modifications are<br>more likely to be required at much higher temperatures and\/or humidity.<br><br>LAVic, Regions, Centres and Clubs will promptly communicate any potential or actual<br>changes and mitigation strategies if there is a risk of exertional heat illness to participants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>USING THE HEAT POLICY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To obtain a forecast of temperature and humidity for the upcoming 7 days:<br>i. Visit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/places\/\">http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/places\/<\/a> and enter the location\/post code;<br>ii. Click on: \u201cDETAILED 3-HOURLY FORECAST\u201d;<br>iii. Select the specific day\/date of enquiry;<br>iv. Identify the column with the nearest time to the planned competition\/practice;<br>v. Note the \u201cAir Temperature (\u02daC)\u201d value;<br>vi. AND IN THE SAME COLUMN, note the concurrent \u201cRelative Humidity (%)\u201d value<br>found towards the bottom of the entry for that date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Refer to the following chart to determine the relative risk of planned Little Athletics activities.<br><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Note: Little Athletics activities scheduled to take place during conditions forecast as \u2018Extreme\u2019 should not proceed.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"558\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klac23.org.au\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Heat-Policy-Chart-2025.png?resize=640%2C558\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16937\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klac23.org.au\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Heat-Policy-Chart-2025.png?resize=1024%2C892&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klac23.org.au\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Heat-Policy-Chart-2025.png?resize=300%2C261&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klac23.org.au\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Heat-Policy-Chart-2025.png?resize=100%2C87&amp;ssl=1 100w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klac23.org.au\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Heat-Policy-Chart-2025.png?resize=200%2C174&amp;ssl=1 200w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/klac23.org.au\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/Heat-Policy-Chart-2025.png?w=1077&amp;ssl=1 1077w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The aim of LAVic\u2019s Heat Policy (the Policy) is to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Protect the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone who participates, including<br>athletes, volunteers, families, coaches and officials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Detail strategies for participation to continue with appropriate mitigation and risk<br>management strategies in place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide guidance to event, competition and training organisers regarding the<br>effective management of hot and extreme weather conditions.<br>Should a person wish to make any enquiries in relation to this Policy, please contact the<br>Little Athletics Victoria Chief Executive Officer at office@lavic.com.au.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This policy applies to the following activities where LAVic and our Regions, affiliated Centres<br>and Clubs have a duty of care to participants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Weekly Centre competitions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Centre Championships<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Centre Competition trials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open Days<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Centre training<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Camps<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clinics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working bees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Education courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LAVic State &amp; training are the responsibility of the Centre\/Club<br>committees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Centre Championships are the responsibility of the Centre committees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Centre Competition trials are the responsibility of the Centre committees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Centre Open Days are the responsibility of the organising Centre Committee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Camps are the responsibility of the organising body.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social activities are the responsibility of the organising body.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Working bees are the responsibility of the organising body.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>State education programs such as skills clinics, training courses and training squads<br>are the responsibility of the LAVic Education Manager and CEO.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Region events are the responsibility of the Region Competition Director, the LAVic<br>Competitions Manager and the CEO.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>State competition events are the responsibility of the LAVic Competitions Manager<br>and the CEO.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Little Athletics Victoria has updated its Heat Policy which is now in effect &#8211;
