Officials

Little athletics does not happen without the help of parent volunteers. Many of our volunteers also choose to become ‘Chief Officials’.

We encourage all of our chief officials to complete the Australian Sports Commission Introduction to Officiating course and/or the Australian Athletics Officials’ Education Scheme Level 1 training for the event/s they run.

The Introductory Level Officiating General Principles online course, has been developed to assist officials in learning the basic skills they will need to officiate effectively. It contains three modules, which cover a range of general officiating topics, including ethical responsibilities of officials, preparation for officiating, safety, communication, dealing with conflict and people management. The course takes approximately four hours to complete, and there is assessment included within the course. Officials have six months to complete the course after they register.

The AAOES Level 1 training includes 12 courses:Track, Starting, Walks, Out of Stadia, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Hammer Throw, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, and Pole Vault.

Each course contains 4 modules, each with their own content and multiple-choice quiz, covering Rules, Officials & Communication, Equipment and Risk Management.

Once you have completed all four modules and the competency quiz, you have finished the course and will be able to download your Certificate of Completion. Please forward a copy of the certificate to officials@klac23.org.au

Each course should take around 30-60 minutes depending on your prior knowledge of the event and/or athletics.
